Do not bring me
cold diamonds
rubies or
pearls...

These are worthless to me

Do give me your warm words of love
In swirling script
On parchment fine...

Do not bring me flowers
That will soon wither
And die...

These will surely be wasted on me

Do give me poetry
Poured forth from your heart...

This will last me a lifetime

Great job LB To me a gift of poetry is a gift of yourself, not something you have purchased, off of a store shelf. Kuz

pearls rubies and diamons... i can see why you woldnt really need thos... the love and poetry i could also see how you would love to get thos... but flowers... the may wither and die... but for the length of there life they are beautiful... the bring such warmth and life in to the house...

this poem was writen well... and a bit of truths expressed... i just wish i could find another like u... not wanting rubies and diamonds and pearls or flowers... if she wanted me just to write it would save me alot of money... lol... keep up the good work...

Lost Butterfly- There are rare occassions when words speak louder than actions (giving presents) certainly if the poem is well-written and original. I think thats what makes it highly-valued isn't? The originality of the gift, many people buy roses or even diamonds, but words can't be bought and few poems are unoriginal if they come from the heart and the writer believes what he/she writes.

best wishes,
~Hope~

Yes, the things we cherish most in life are the things that money can't buy. This year for Christmas our family did something different by giving each other only handmade gifts. Well all except for Dad who isn't the crafty kind...but he did make me a cup of coffee. LOL But These are the gifts from the heart and their value is priceless. It's easy to point at a piece of jewelry in a case and say "I'll take that one", but to sit down and write a poem or make a gift out of love ....well *sigh* that's the best! Smile
Thanks LB...we're not all material girls are we! Big Grin hmmm but a diamond would be nice.........

You touched on a sensitive subject with me in the poem you wrote. I've always said, "Don't buy me roses, pick me wildflowers"...Ahhh sweet and honest...Lovely, Gem Big Grin

You get three "me likes" because this poem is deserving of it!

Very unique. I especially loved the ending.

Early Valentines- yay for being early!

I'm agreeing with LWAS on that!

Cool

I feel you wrote this just for me, you unknowingly have
touched my heart with this short, though meaningful poem.
I was taken back to a most loving time, many thanks.

No, really,
