America the land of freedom Red, white and blue symbolizing Who we are Somehow the combination of those three colors Make so much sense
The place where civil war is not uncommon That’s why it’s America But when it’s time to join together There’s no place like America
We put our differences behind us We join in song We remember where we stand Can you hear God Bless America?
An eagle standing tall, Miraculous vigilance in time of need Enthusiastic morality of human beings Who give a damn about someone Other than themselves
Other places can say what they like But in the end America is about fighting for freedom Fourth of July we all gaze at the fair sky As it is lit by man made spectacles
An American flag waving proudly As the sky is alive with luminous light Many gather as if heaven was in clear sight Even though not on that night
There are something’s unique about this place So many things that jump in my thoughts Is it the people? The style? The traditions?
Next time you see a luminous sky Let it reminisce of war torn days Long fought battles Let it stand for the men who knew All men were created equal
An American anthem for all ages Freedom is the song Freedom always belonged In another two hundred twenty six years Will out prosperity give respect to this day?
If not Show them September 11th A day that every American felt Somehow in my human heart I know it’s all going to be all right
Charismatic stripes Magnetic stars Prodigious flag Land of red, white and blue
All who read Let them know Freedom sings loudly in my ear Let the word enlighten your soul
Always the land of red, white and blue Will forever mean as we sing our American songs Praise our American traditions Reminisce of American people Live the American pride Live the American dream
As long as we don't lose sight of what's right about this place, and don't lose sight of what's wrong either - we've got a good chance of fixing the worst of the problems.
Another good write, I really do like the layout and format of this one. I thought you used a couple of incorrect words in 2 places, but after a slow re-read I understood what you meant. Keep at it.
Love the poem, it is really good. I like how you put the red, white, and blue in the poem. Also how you made history come into the poem. (September 11th and more.) Well, nice work. !~*~!Coley!~*~!

Ridin1_ The most important thing is never to lost sight.
SexyEyedDragon_ I didnt try to put it in. It came in the thinking process. America is alot better than any place in the world. WIth its many flaws. We must celebrate what good we do have.
Well, I had to do it, I was wondering about the context of this one... Main Entry: pro·di·gious Pronunciation: pr&-'di-j&s Function: adjective Date: 15th century 1 a : obsolete : being an omen : PORTENTOUS b : archaic : resembling or befitting a prodigy : STRANGE, UNUSUAL 2 : exciting amazement or wonder 3 : extraordinary in bulk, quantity, or degree : ENORMOUS synonym see MONSTROUS - pro·di·gious·ly adverb - pro·di·gious·ness noun
And now I think I understand. Excellent word D-mly.

My favorite lines. A trutly patriotic work, thanks for sharing.

"To die, to sleep -- To sleep, perchance to dream, ay there's the rub, For in that sleep of death what dreams may come When we have shuffled off this mortal coil, Must give us pause; there's the respect That makes calamity of so long life." -William Shakespeare, Hamlet
Prior to reading your patriot's tribute to your homeland, I happened across some old notes I'd scribbled from William Bennett's book The Death of Outrage where he used the term amor patriae, the Latin phrase for "love of country."
Thank you for having the guts to post an unabashedly grateful tribute to America on her Independence Day. Historically, a nation is great when she is good. You do a fine job of reminding us of the ideal for which we should strive.

morrislumpkin- I understand to a degree. Maybe you should elaborate on what you are trying to say. So no misinterpretations can be made.
Harv- Yea, I wondered would people understand that word. But I went with instince and it worked out great.
Airedale: I am proud to praise this country. Even though I have poems that condemns America for returning back to normal pst sep. 11th. I still believe you can criticize America and still love it.
