This is possibly the funniest thing ever posted on Youtube. Big call, but I'm serious. I mistook it for satire at first, only to discover it's a real ad campaign.
America really is... ...amazing.
I laughed my socks off. "My freedom will be taken away!" Doh! Was it just me or was there a strange implication that everyone was about to be forced into a same sex marriage?.........
What amazes me is that the American equivalent of the Advertising Standards Authority, yes, the ASA, allows this to be broadcast, unless this is only going out on YouTube. If it is going out on TV then there really is something seriously wrong with America.

I didn’t know this was adolescent hour.
I am not sure, “I laughed my socks off.,” or “the funniest thing ever posted on Youtube,” represent the caliber of intelligent dialogue that makes for good discussion or a good website.
Maybe some allowances for ignorance could be made for non-Americans commenting so flippantly on American law and culture but it doesn’t excuse the
The American legal system is different from Europe and creates concerns that those outside the system would be unaware. To describe the video in such as was done above was itself humorous.
Concerns in America over laws affecting the Church where people in the Church, a huge part of the culture, could be subject to jail, or civil lawsuits, for refusing to perform in accordance with a law sanctioning marriage of a miniscule fraction of the population, acting clearly contrary to the Church’s fundamental doctrines, whose lifestyle's only evident origin is choice, is not a subject to that intelligent commentary would result in statements like, “the funniest thing ever seen,” or “I laughed my socks off.”
Shame on you both.

On a serious note: One has to evaluate 'one's freedom at the expense of another's'. It's all very well saying that 'I have the freedom to do this, that or something else', but at what cost to others' freedoms.
In the UK (and I thought it was the same in the States) we are a little more wary of complaining about our freedom. Perhaps we are less concerned for ourselves and more concerned about others.

I'm an American and I laughed two pairs of socks off. The state issues marriage licenses, a church can choose whether or not to perform marriage ceremonies. To think that gay marriage being allowed will open up religious institutions to criminal or civil litigation is the kind of slippery slope reasoning I hope to see on Glenn Beck, gosh he's just a lovable fascist.
Although, I have to say I'm impressed with the reasoning in that video, preserving or enabling a right to a suspect class jeopardizes an entire other set of people. With that kinda thinking, we better take away the right to vote from women and minorities.
If my tone seems flippant and brassy, your intuition is correct.

When you’re finished being flippant and brassy maybe you could use your sober brain power to explain how the origins of gender and race are the same as homosexuality.
If there is no evidence that homosexuality is anything but a choice, would you condemn the right of the groups to limit any behavior between adults? What about the right to limit any behavior by adults. Isnt that a better example of "slippery slope reasoning?"
Now, what I find funniest about your post is how you could “laugh both your sox off” and find the “reasoning impressive” at the same time.
Words like bad burrito come to mind.

While waiting patiently for Ladon’s non-flippant, more sober and better carbohydrates response I thought I would sneak in a video from Nassim Teleb speaking truth to the Nobel prized backed "reasoning" of the wacky world of Economics that is the foundation of our current financial institutions.

Just buy DVD "Sita Sings the Blues" and watch !! It is beautiful!!
In an episode taken from the director's own life, animator Nina Paley starts the film living happily in a San Francisco apartment with her husband and cat. Her husband then accepts the offer of a six-month contract working in Trivandrum, India, and moves there alone to take up the position. After several months of very little contact, he finally calls Nina to inform her that the contract has been extended.
Bewildered by his callous indifference to their separation, Nina takes the initiative to sublet their apartment, leave their beloved cat with their new tenants and join her husband in India. Upon her arrival he appears deeply unenthusiastic to be reunited with her and demonstrates neither affection nor interest. A while later, Nina flies to a meeting in New York, for which her expenses and accommodation will be paid. In New York, she receives a brief e-mail from her husband telling her not to return to India, that their relationship is over. Sad and alone, she stays in New York, finding comfort in a new cat and her study of the Ramayana.
Nina Paley's version of this contemporary parallel, any heart broken women can understand. Good therapy.
Get some knowledge of Ramayana. than spend about an hour and watch this movie or rent or buy it. Please...this is a beautiful. Don't miss it!
