A friend of mine told me recently that Linux systems cannot be affected by viruses.
Is that true?
If yes, why is it so?

That's false. Linux can be affected by viruses. However, the people who write viruses create them to make the most damage possible. I'd hazard to guess that 90%+ computers use some form of windows. So windows becomes the biggest target.

As such, if Linux became popular, you would see a lot of viruses.

What your friend may have been referring to is that Linux compared with windows, tends to be safer in lieu of the fact that Linux is a better written operating system.
