"For money, you would sell your soul."
-- Sophocles

Faust's First Law of Synergism
The one day you'd sell your soul for something, souls are a glut on the market.

You'll want to look into Goethe's Faust, Parts I and II (Part I is the most famous; he worked on the whole thing between 1802 and 1832), in which Faust sells his soul to the Devil, in the form of Mephistopheles, for youth. Gounod wrote an opera based on this story, also called "Faust," in 1859. The Italian composer Arrigo Boito wrote "Mefistofele," also based on Goethe, in the 1870s.

Ok I have never heard of any one actually selling there soul to the devil.
I could make a really bad reference to "The Devil Went Down To Georgia." but that would be weird.
My guess is you would get possessed by a demon or something...and if that doesent happen then you probably might go to hell but i doubt it is possible to sell your soul. sell your gold

It doesn't use gold, or refer to the devil, but one of my favorite quotations on this general topic comes from Robert Bolt's A Man for All Season. Sir Thomas More, learning that a key witness against him has just been appointed Attorney General for Wales, says:

"For Wales? Why, Richard, it profits a man nothing to give his soul for the whole world . . . But for Wales!"

"I vow it's enough to make a man
want to sell his soul to the devil! And I would,
too, for two cents!"
Jabez Stone, in The Devil and Daniel Webster http://tarlton.law.utexas.edu/...text/devil/devil.htm
