Hey all. I was wondering if any of you knew the story about the father and son that were hiking and they heard an echo. It is a story teaching about finding the image of God. Thanks and God Bless.
Can't find anything quite like you are describing. Anything more to go on? Where do you remember hearing this story?
quote:"Magic Moments" Given by Lloyd D. Newell August 13, 2000 #3704 Once in awhile there are unexpected moments in our lives when time seems to touch eternity—when we suddenly feel we're on the edge of this life and the next. These moments of awakening are often triggered by an unusual experience or sensation, however subtle, and frequently occur in the tranquil setting of nature. They have the effect of reminding us of the important things we value most. These instructive moments are truly magical.
A father and son on a camping trip experienced such a moment in nature together. While hiking in the forest, they came upon an unusual swarm of thousands of ladybugs. Thousands were in the air; thousands more were on the ground. The son scooped up handfuls of ladybugs that were heaped on a fallen tree, and launched them into the air, creating an unforgettable spectacle. Both were overwhelmed with this private, once-in-a-lifetime privilege, and a new connection was made between father, son, heaven, and earth. As they marveled over these beautiful insects, they completely forgot about other concerns. Nothing else seemed more important than the feeling of togetherness inspired by this magic moment.
Meaningful encounters with nature are not always so sensational. Some of the most profound can be simple events in our own backyard. A hummingbird appearing at our kitchen window, a dazzling sunset fading into the horizon, crickets chirping in unison, autumn leaves swirling in the wind—these small wonders can open our hearts to the hidden mysteries of life.
As we bask in the beauties of nature and contemplate the sublime order of this world, there comes the distinct assurance that we are not here by chance. We are connected with all living things, and our life is a valuable part of the grand design. In the rapture of a surprise experience, for a split second we catch a glimpse of the infinite, and the meaning of life comes into view. Filled with tender emotion and yearning for something better beyond our present existence, we resolve to treat all living things more kindly. It's during these peaceful, magic moments with nature that our vision is most clear—and we see the hand of God. http://www.josephsons.org/slmtc/mswtext.htm
I really don't have much more to go on. It was used in a speech on a retreat a few years ago. It has to do with hearing an echo....sort-of teaching the idea that although we can't always see God, he is always there (in a nutshell).

I found this one on Gaia<dot>com Coincidence Echo A son and his father were walking on the mountains. Suddenly, his son falls, hurts himself and screams: AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!" To his surprise, the son hears the voice repeating, somewhere in the mountain: "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!" Curious, he yells: "Who are you?" He receives the answer: "Who are you?" Angered at the response, he screams: "Coward!" He receives the answer: "Coward!" He looks to his father and asks: "What's going on?" The father smiles and says: "My son, pay attention." And then he screams to the mountain: "I admire you!" The voice answers: "I admire you!" Again the man screams: "You are a champion!" The voice answers: "You are a champion!" The boy is surprised, but does not understand. Then the father explains: "People call this ECHO, but really this is LIFE. It gives you back everything you say or do. Our life is simply a reflection of our actions. If you want more love in the world, create more love in your heart. If you want more competence in your team, improve your competence. This relationship applies to everything, in all aspects of life; Life will give you back everything you have given to it." YOUR LIFE IS NOT A COINCIDENCE. IT'S A REFLECTION OF YOU!
