As very little comes up on a search, can any readers assist with quotations (if there even are any) on being real and/or genuine.

This may not be quite what you are looking for, but two things spring immediately to mind:

"This above all: to thine ownself be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man."
Polonius' Advice to Laertes, from Shakespeare's Hamlet

"Be yourself. Everyone else is taken."
I haven't been able to find a source for the latter one, and suspect it may have passed into folk idiom.

You might also run a search on "be yourself" on this website--bunch of interesting pages pop up, some of which might have what you are looking for.

An excerpt from The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams, "On Being Real"



"What is REAL?" asked the Rabbit one day, when they were lying side by side near the nursery fender, before Nana came to tidy the room. "Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?"

You should check quotes on the subject of authenticity, you'll get many with the same meaning. Anyways, here goes...

There are some colloquial sayings that come to mind but they are gender biased.

He’s the real McCoy.

He’s cocksure of himself.

He is a bonafide lunatic.

He’s a straight shooting son of a gun.

He’s can talk the talk and walk the walk.

He’s about as honest as the day is long.

He is a man of genuine integrity.


She’s a real angel.

She is real lady.

She is an American girl.

She has a heart of gold.

She has the heart of a Saint.

Words are really powerful!
Especially words that are formed into simple quote. If you just look deeper the meaning of it you will actually relate and somehow it inspires you on how to live everyday..
