The healing of our present woundedness may lie in recognizing and reclaiming the capacity we have to heal each other, the enormous power in the simplest of human relationships: the strength of a touch, the blessing of forgiveness, the grace of someone else taking you just as you are and finding in you an unsuspected goodness. Everyone alive has suffered. It is the wisdom gained from our wounds and from our own experiences of suffering that makes us able to heal. Becoming expert has turned out to be less important than remembering and trusting the wholeness in myself and everyone else. Expertise cures, but wounded people can best be healed by other wounded people. Only other wounded people can understand what is needed, for the healing of suffering is compassion, not expertise. -- Rachel Naomi Remen, from Kitchen Table Wisdom

One must not forget that recovery is brought about not by the physician, but by the sick man himself. He heals himself, by his own power, exactly as he walks by means of his own power, or eats, or thinks, breathes or sleeps. ~~Georg Groddeck (1866–1934), German psychoanalyst. The Book of the It, letter 32 (1923).
"Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." ~~The Bible - Matthew 26:39-41 :: King James Version (KJV)

When an emotional injury takes place, the body begins a process as natural as the healing of a physical wound. Let the process happen. Trust that nature will do the healing. Know that the pain will pass, and when it passes, you will be stronger, happier, more sensitive and aware.~ Mel Colgrove

Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life last. There is symbolic as well as actual beauty in the migration of the birds, the ebb and flow of the tides, the folded bud ready for the spring. There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature — the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter.~Rachel Carson (1907-1964), U.S. biologist and writer. The Sense of Wonder.

The power of love to change bodies is legendary, built into folklore, common sense, and everyday experience. Love moves the flesh, it pushes matter around . . . Throughout history, “tender loving care” has uniformly been recognized as a valuable element in healing. ~Larry Dossey
So many come to the sickroom thinking of themselves as men of science fighting disease and not as healers with a little knowledge helping nature to get a sick man well. ~Auckland Geddes, The Practitioner

Politics and the pulpit are terms that have little agreement. No sound ought to be heard in the church but the healing voice of Christian charity. The cause of civil liberty and civil government gains as little as that of religion by this confusion of duties. Those who quit their proper character to assume what does not belong to them are, for the greater part, ignorant both of the character they leave and of the character they assume.
Edmund Burke (1729-1797), “Reflections on the Revolution in France,” 1790, The Works of the Right Honorable Edmund Burke, vol. 3, p. 246 (1899).
I don't want to get to the end of my life and find that I lived just the length of it. I want to have lived the width of it as well. - Diane Ackerman, quoted in "Newsweek"
