At least not for another 50 years. By then human would probably fly regularly instead of drive (like to work and stuff). Around the World, a very small populations get access to the internet.

This subject is not properly structured for a debate. The author merely stated his opinion.

It may be worded to structure a discussion but such topics need more forethought before they are posted as a debate subject.

What say ye?

Are newspapers a thing of the past or are they here to stay? While some people “think” that newspapers are a thing of the past I am not one of those people. And just because I think so does not make it so but I can offer my reasons. While some major publications are struggling to stay out of the red it is my observation that small town papers that publish a weekly paper are still quite profitable. Local newspapers tend to take a political bias. In my home county there is a Republican newspaper and also a Democrat newspaper. The county in which I reside is predominantly a Republican County. Almost all the elected officials in our county are Republicans. Almost all the city people in the county seat are Democrats. Almost all the city officials including the mayor are Democratic folk. Consequently the R’s outnumber the D’s. Hence, there is a well defined duality of politics which accounts for why the Republican paper is more profitable than the Democratic paper. The Republican paper has been family owned for three generations. The Democrat paper has changed hands half a dozen times in the same period of time. Real estate advertisements tend to be one of the primary sources of income for the local papers. As long as real estate is for sale there will be a newspaper. The Democrat paper posts the Ten Most Wanted list of criminals in our county. This is a new fad that mimics the FBI’s ten most wanted list. The Republican paper does not have a web site but the Democrat paper does.

Saying that newspapers are a thing of the past is like saying that radio is a thing of the past. Has television replaced radio? No. Why? The reason lies in supply and demand. There is a demand for radio just like there is a demand for the printed press. Not all people own personal computers or cellular telephones.

Saying that newspapers are a thing of the past is like saying that gun powder is a thing of the past. As long as there is a smoking gun there will always be a newspaper to print the story.
