I was going to post the 3rd poem in the Trilogy but decided to post this one first before I post the last poem. Just in case you forgot the the first poem was My Skin Is My Sin (Obamanation) the 2nd was The America That I Know and the 3rd is Walk A Mile In My Shoes. This poem is for those who do nothing, see nothing and are numb to the world around them. The people who come here and read and don't respond. A Safe Poem is what you need something that a Rico poem is not.

this poem is for the people
who have perfect lives
the housewives
whose husbands are
making the bacon
while they stay at home
baking cookies
cakes and apple pies
never once questioning
the who what when and why
no identification of
what this nation is facing
so this poem is for you

this is a safe poem
for those who never
challenge the status quo
as their status grows
they worry only about family vacations
don't understand what the world
is facing
so this poem is for you

this is a safe poem
that will not make
you see the revolution
or ask you for the solution
to end war or poverty
this is for the ones
that can't see the glass
is half full or half empty
because the reality
is this that the truth
has been missed
as they continue to resist
and dismiss
and twist the lies so they
can sustain
while they ignore the world's
pain
this poem is for you

this poem will not talk about
the direction this country
is going after the election
this poem will not talk
about justice or inequality
this poem will not set
your mind free
this is a safe poem
that will not create any storms
ripples or waves
you will not have to be brave
or will u be called to action
my reaction is to give you
what you want and
what you believe
that you need
that is
A safe poem

Raw, gutsy, and in-your-face. are words that have been used. To me they describe exactly what Rico is all about.
Don't ever change………comments from Songbird in the poem “ Walking Through Hell”
Rico-style
Unmatched - unsurpassed......Rhon831 from the poem "My Fruit"
:breathless: ...... Concerned Brotha from the poem "Formality"
When you see the name 'Rico' - you think of Poetry Knockout from the poem "My Fruit"

To add to your signature:

"MLK Jr. meets Kanye."

Looking forward (not alone) to Part 3.

this is an amazing piece! the fact that you do not choose to "educate" but instead let the realization come from the reader itself. it should cause guilt i believe in those or at least a split second of an awakening.

these days i'm writing about love. You know how that goes. i enjoy poems like this. it reminds me what expression is all about.

Of all of the poems that you have ever written, whether I liked them or not, understood the message or not, agreed with your point of view or not...this; my dear brother is the best poem that I have ever read...written and composed by you.

Out of Darkness...Truth Emerges

...Exact...Succinct and Clear

Live and Practice The Wisdom You've Shared

I would agree that this is a safe poem.

It is a good poem in the context of "good."

With that being said I think that the poetry forum here is faltering due to poor leadership. Now that might not be a safe statement but it reflects how I feel. This forum has has had some excellent leadership in the past. Some moderators have devoted dilligent hours and generous comments to both the good and the poor poems posted here. Some moderators have devoted almost nothing but their name to the collective benefit of the poetry forum. Rico and Lionheart and Lost Buttlerfly have always been faithful to this forum and I wnat to thank them for their contributions.

Thank You, Thank Ye, and Thank-ya very much. Smile

I loved this poem.

Status quo as your status grows... so clever.
Even more, I love that you call it a safe poem.
