I am not a proponent of violence. I am opposed to Domestic Violence.

In His Place

Alone in my room
Empty is my bed
Engulfed in remorse
All covered in red (blood)

He lost it and hit me
I didn’t like what he did
He knocked me to the
Floor; all I saw was red (anger)

Covered with the defeat
That was staining my
Clothes; rage helped wipe
The blood from my nose

He is now the sum
Of all of my fears; my
Disgust spewed out
In a silhouette of tears.

Weapons are the
Judge and jury; that
Slay the beast who
earned my fury

He’s all over me; and
Very hard to restrain
Emotions are rising
And hard to contain

Down on my knees; again
Hands raised in fear,
Stop hurting me I cried
He listened with deaf ears


He kicked me as
I laid on the floor
It took all of my might
To reach death’s door

Why is he so upset
Will this insanity pass
Slip into the closet, fool
Get him off your ass

I’m all alone in my room
Holding my breath
He’s visiting the mother
His father shot to death

Perpetual fear placed my
Hand in the case; grabbing
Hold of the pistol
Put him in his place!

Powerful piece, QT. The next to the last stanza says volumes. Oftimes abuse observed or received while growing up is repeated by the victim. It is perpetuated from one generation to the next. It would be wonderful if the cycle could be broken. I'm sure it occasionally is, but I'm guessing more often that's not the case. Vivid poem. ~~lb~~

Thanks for the response LB. At first I thought my piece was a bit risque or too controversial for people to comment. Some subjects are "Taboo" and people don't like to discuss them in an open forum.

Too many times here in Louisiana when I turn on the TV...there is a story about murder/suicide, family annihilation or domestic violence. God knows that I never want to be involved with a man that wants to love me to death.

I believe that if you love me you would protect and never hurt me. It's a shame that "Love" is defined so differently between people. Break-ups aren't a sign of failure and Divorce is a sign of growth. People do change and part of that change sometimes include a change in partners.
