She hit the pavement
I took the woods
we couldn't read the signs
never saw the split

it came like thunder crashing
torn limb from limb
we couldn't see the storm
never saw the end

I still can't see the split
I still can't see the end
because somewhere in this journey
someday I know we'll meet again.

"I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soul."
-William Ernest Henley, from "Invictus"

This reminds me a bit of a poem by Robert Frost, The Road Not Taken. Your poem is right sweet. There is a paperback book in the drawer of my desk:

Immortal Poems of the English Language

An Anthology Edited By
OSCAR WILLIAMS

4447 British and American
Masterpieces by 150 Poets

On the right side of the cover of a book there is a vertical row of photographs or images of seven poets. At the top of the row is William Shakespeare. In descending order there is John Milton, John Keats, T.S. Elliot, W. B. Yeast and Phantom Delta. Yep, my photo is at the bottom. I simply took out a sharp pocket knife and cut a hole out where G.M. Hopkins image was and inserted my own photo on the inside of the cover then secured it with Scotch tape. I figured it was the only way that I was ever going to become an immortal poet. The anthology is a keepsake from my freshman year in college, 1975.

I especially enjoy reading one of the poems by Sammy T. Coldfridge, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Smile

The parting of friend or lover can be a sad thing. I had a friend many years ago who went off to war and never returned; I think of him often.
