The ordering of topics in the Writer's Club forums has been changed so that topics will not move back to the top. The direct advantage of this is that the Bumping and Bunching rules are no longer needed.

I hope this makes things simpler for everyone. It may take some getting used to, but remember that you can use the post-it note icon in the far left column to tell if a topic has new replies since the last time you visited (yellow indicates new posts).

Also, you can click on the light bulb between Quoteland.com and Quoteland.com User Groups and select "New Since your Last Visit". Additionaly, you can use the Notification options to recieve emails notifying you of changes to topics you are especially interested in.

If you need additional help using any of the functions I've mentioned, select "Help" from the forum toolbar under "Tools".

I was thinking, say two months from now the new forums have 20 pages and we want to bump a topic we like (not ours', but someone else's) for others to read, like we used to do in the OWC, how do we do that? People won't go back to page 17 to see a yellow icon indicating new posts... any ideas?

If people get into the habbit of using the new posts listings then the post on page 17 would show up there.

I might also insert a snapshot of the recent posts lists at the top of each forum.

I’ve been in QL nearly 11 months or so, and I myself am not sure how many people would check the notification thing. I don’t think that yours is a bad idea at all, but I doubt how many people would follow that route in practice. Although I am not clear about what the snapshots thing implies…it seems like a good idea if the snapshot of recent posts are shown at the top of the forum.

LWAS -

I think the snapshot would work something like this:

It would be a small box, near the top of the forum, and on there, it would have a list of the five most recent replies on the forum. I think.

********

About the new rules. I think this is a possible alternative, but I don't think that it should always be like this. It's just not the same. I wouldn't have thought that the bumping rule was this much of a problem....

I asked Jesus, "How much do you love me?".
Jesus answered, "This much"
as He stretched His arms and died on the cross for me.

I, too, believe the snapshot of recent posts is an excellent solution. Thanks, Adam.

I think that if u are going to do the no bumping thing, that the little "snapshot" is a good idea. But to me, as it is now, its a little hard to look at. it doesnt make me want to read any of the titles, because its not as organized as the rest of the lists, Im just thinking that if it were like the other lists it would be easier to view, and that more people would reply to them, because thats what we are used to.

Sorry but one more thing- this “new” implies new in that day- or new since a person’s last visit? Like if a person is visiting on 14th July after 3 days, would s/he be displayed the posts made on 14th- or made since last three days?

Applepie- I think that this snapshots thing is better than nothing… I prefer the older thing (bumping one) personally but the bumping and bunching rules were confusing to some people too. Habits can, gradually, change if the change is for the better (hope that this is for the better Big Grin, time may tell)~

Adam- This new 'snap-shot' idea looks good to me, it may take some time to get used to, but I have already used in, in replying to something over at Prose which I had missed the first time. Yes, I definetly like this better than the bunching and bumping rules being enforced.

best wishes,
Hope {Grant}

I, personally, agree with Hope. It is easier to look at the snapshot to see most recent posts, though as has been previously mentioned, it could stand to be a bit more organized. I do think that this was a good change to the boards, though.

I hate to be- but have to be (thanks to be my curious mind)- a party-pooper. Having a snapshot is better than not having one, but not everyone visits daily while the snapshots show just the ten most recent posts; that way if we reply to an “old” work, not everyone would be able to notice the change through snapshot as there would be people who are visiting say after a few days and they would probably miss out on that old work since the snapshot would show more recent 10 posts- while in case of bumping we could see like whole half the page full of bumped topics. If we find a way out then it’s better, otherwise I’m ok with this- just wanted to point that out.

Wow Eek A lot has changed since I was last here - but my Ma always told me change is good. Big Grin lol - I like the snapshots and it's great that there won't be anymore confusion on the bunching-bumping rules. Way to go Adam!

Hopelessdreamer…It may be your browser! I had the same problem (but remained silent) using Opera. I switched to Internet Explorer and that was the end of that. Try a different browsers, IE or Mozilla should work.
