The quote is something like that:

"God does not exist, because if he would I would be him". or "There is no god, because if he would exist I could not stand that he's not me".

As far as I remember it was Aleister Crowley or Timothy Leary. But I'm not sure now.
If someone knows the correct quotation and the author, please answer me. Thanks!

I did an extended search with no results. Perhaps someone else can find it.

Every so often I come back and pick at this one. I have a feeling that I have seen something that may be it (or very like it) at some point, but over 50 years of active reading means I've looked at a LOT of text. But don't give up hope, DarkestStar, someone may yet stumble across it. . .

Friedrich Nietzsche in Thus Spake Zarathustra:

"If there were a God, how could I endure not to be God? Though I drew this conclusion, it now draws me."

Ooooh! Cool!

It's probably a translator issue--the Project Gutenberg text in English, showing Thomas Common as translator, renders it as follows:

"But that I may reveal my heart entirely unto you, my friends: IF there were gods, how could I endure it to be no God! THEREFORE there are no Gods.

Yea, I have drawn the conclusion; now, however, doth it draw me.--"

(from Discourse XXIV, "In the Happy Isles.")

nope, that's not what i'm looking for. Frown I could find the quote on the web about a few months ago, but somehow I can't get the clue to it anymore. Almost sure it was Crowley who said that.
