I was once told that the following was a quote from a German philosopher, but was never given his name. Any one know the source of this philosophical quote?
I am not who you think I am, I am not who I think I am, I am who I think you think I am.
I found lots of attributions (and versions), but the only source I found on the Internet was the last one.
I am not what I think I am. I am not what you think I am. I am what I think you think I am. -Aaron Bleiberg & Harry Leubling- http://www.duke.edu/~tlavenir/quotes.html
"I am not what I think I am. I am not what you think I am. I am what I think you think I am." ~ Robert H. Schuller, Self-Esteem: The New Reformation (Waco: Word Books, 1982) p. 158 http://www.jayforrest.org/differentgospel.htm#notes
Well, I know its been years since this was posted but, if anyone is still interested.
The German Philosopher that jimarch was referring to was Max Webber.
Its been quite sometime since I studied psychology, philosophy and sociology, but from what I remember this answer should be correct. I may have misspelled his last name. You pronounce the "w" as a "v". So his last name would be pronounced "Vebber"
The way we imagine ourselves to appear to another person is an essential element in our conception of ourselves. In other words, I am not what I think I am, and I am not what you think I am. I am what I think you think I am.~Robert Bierstedt, sociologist. No cite given.
