Could anyone help me out? I am searching for a specific quote that is relatively famous, I think. It goes something along the lines of...

Let a love go like a bird and if it returns then it was meant to be.

That is just a paraphrase, but any help would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

"If you love someone, set them free. If they don't come back, it was never meant to be"

"If you love someone, set them free. If they return to you, put several 8 inch blades into their head. If they return again, then run... just run."
~ Roman Durge, Lenore

If you love something, set if free. If it comes back, it's dependent on you.

If you love someone set them free. ----Sting
(And if they don't come running back, hunt them down and shoot them.)
~Hell's Angels

If you love someone, set them free. If they don't come back, then call them up when you're drunk.

If you love someone, set them free. If they come back, they're probably broke.

One of my favourite quotations, I've been searching for it for quite some time....

There is this quotation:

"If you love somebody, let them go. If they return, they were
ALWAYS yours. If they don't, they NEVER were."
- DMX
http://www.angelfire.com/journal/quotesoflove/page5.html

Almost 100% sure he did not originally say it.... It can be found all over the Internet attributed to "Anonymous" or "Unknwon".

"If you love somebody, let them go. If they return, they were always yours. If they don't, they never were."
- Anon

Ahh, while searching I stumbled across this....

If you love somebody, let them go, for if they return, they were always yours. And if they don't, they never were...
Kahlil Gibran

Other websites that attribute it to him:

I also found what appears to be a different variation, more alike to Thenostromo's quotation:

If you love something, set it free; if it comes backs
it's yours, if it doesn't, it never was
--Richard Bach
http://quotations.about.com/cs/lovequotes/tp/10_love_quotes.htm

I asked Jesus, "How much do you love me?".
Jesus answered, "This much"
as He stretched His arms and died on the cross for me.

Some of those Gibran citings even specify "The Prophet," but it isn't from there.
I'm going to stick with Quoteland's
