I think that Shelley said that because he was very concerned with the common man. Of course, he was a romantic and viewed the common laborer as holding the meaning to life and beauty. Not that Shelley would give up his class position to join the common man, hehe.

All that harms labor is treason to America. No line can be drawn between these two. If a man tells you that he loves America, yet he hates labor, he is a liar.
